HELPING CHILDREN AROUND THE WORLD
Jesus said, “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in” (Matthew 25:35).
We believe in the importance of teaching the children (and modeling) what giving to God looks like. It is also essential that the children develop a global awareness of the conditions in which other children live. Our goal is to empower our children to honor God with their finances while making a big difference in the world! Below are some of the projects we have participated in:
1. This year (2019) Sevenoaks Kids partnered with an organization called Food for the Hungry which is located right here in Abbotsford. Food for the Hungry is a Christian non-profit organization dedicated to ending poverty throughout the developing world- one community at a time. (www.fhcanada.org).
The kids raised $1035.05 through crafts sales, donations and collecting money with their "Loose Change Jars" which will stock an entire stable with chickens, cows and goats, as well as provide medical aid and animal care training for those animals. Way to go Sevenoaks Kids and thank-you to our church family for all their support!
2. In 2018, Sevenoaks Kids voted on three different projects to get involved with through Alliance Justice and Compassion which is an organization with the Christian and Missionary Alliance. The project the kids voted for was to purchase mosquito nets for families in Papua Indonesia. The kids raised $1,345.50 through donations, their Craft Sale and collecting money through their Loose Change Jars. This means that 55 families will receive much needed mosquito nets to protect their families against malaria!
3. In 2017, Sevenoaks Kids participated in the C&MA “Helping Refugees Fundraising Campaign” raising $775.20. All proceeds went to the Alliance Justice & Compassion Refugee fund to help our Refugee friends coming into Canada.
4. In 2016, Sevenoaks Kids raised funds for an organization called FIRST STEPS providing 48 children in North Korea with a daily cup of protein rich soymilk for an entire year!
