We want to effect the greatest amount of God-honoring life change in our Parish…
Just as the Church of England divided the country into geographical parishes many years ago, we at Sevenoaks Alliance Church believe there’s merit in using the parish concept to think about our ministry in Abbotsford. Therefore, we are looking at our local ministry through the lenses of Parish One, Two, and Three.
Without neglecting Parish Two and Three, we are particularly concerned for the residents of Parish One, many of whom live near our church building. There is much social brokenness and need in Parish One: homelessness, families at risk, lone-parent families, addiction, domestic violence…
Our current Parish One ministries include Clothesline, A Place to Call Home, and Extreme Weather Shelter.
School Breakfast Program
A dedicated team provides a hot breakfast once a week for a local inner-city school.
Clothesline
Each spring and fall we have a clothing giveaway, called “The Clothesline,” where we offer free clothing to those in need within the community. A group of volunteers collect, sort and display the clothes. On Friday night and Saturday morning the clothes are made available to hundreds of people who eagerly wait for this event. Used clothing donations are accepted all year round.
A Place to Call Home
On Christmas Day a group of volunteers serve a full-course Christmas dinner to over 250 people. Anyone in the community, or from our church family, who is in need or will be alone at Christmas are welcome to call Sevenoaks “Home” on Christmas Day and be a part of this dinner. Free tickets are available at the church office during the month of December.
Extreme Weather Shelter
As part of the Abbotsford Food Bank Extreme Weather Shelter program, Sevenoaks Alliance Church makes its facilities available to provide shelter for homeless people during severe weather. A group of volunteers provide their time to make sleeping space and breakfast available to men who would otherwise be sleeping in the snow and cold.
